About us | Part of the Syntevo Family

Our Vision

SmartGit envisions a future where Git is accessible, efficient, and empowering for everyone — from businesses to individual users. Whether you’re a company working on big software projects, a developer building apps, a gamer creating mods, or a freelancer managing different clients, SmartGit is here to make your work easier.

We focus on simplifying Git and making it work smarter for a wide range of needs. SmartGit is the smarter way to get things done, no matter who you are, where you come from, or what you’re working on.

Our History

Early 2000s

Syntevo began in the early 2000s with a simple idea: to create high-quality developer tools that the founders, Marc Strapetz and Thomas Singer, would want to use themselves. What started with SmartCVS and SmartSVN soon evolved into SmartGit, launched in 2009 and now relied upon by hundreds of thousands of developers around the world.

Two Decades

Over two decades, Syntevo has remained independent, focused, and committed to craftsmanship. While the software landscape has shifted from centralized systems to distributed workflows and cloud integrations, the core philosophy has stayed the same: build exact, reliable, and genuinely helpful tools — without chasing hype.

Today

Today, Syntevo continues to refine SmartGit and explore new technologies while staying true to what has defined the company from the start: quality, clarity, and developer-centric thinking.
